Short Bytes: Console cracking group fail0verflow has managed to hack PlayStation 4 and play Pokémon. The group made use of a WebKit bug to access the Linux Free BSD based Sony Orbis operating system.
However, past one month wasn’t great for developers working at Sony. Earlier this month, PlayStation 4 was jailbroken and allowed modifications in the console. Moving one step ahead, console cracking group fail0verflow managed to hack a PlayStation 4 to run Linux.
The group made use of a WebKit bug to access the Linux Free BSD based Sony Orbis operating system. This attack works in PlayStation 4 version 1.76.
For the time being Sony has patched the bug, but it’s believed that fail0verflow might be able to refine the process to apply it on recent versions of the console.
The cracking group loaded a Game Boy emulator on the hacked machine and played Pokémon.
